UTP 81 Electrode
Description
UTP 81 is a non-machinable electrode with a graphitic coating, designed for welding poor-quality cast iron, including material that is sand-included, burnt, or chemically contaminated. It is a cost-effective electrode that produces a hardened deposit.
Characteristics
UTP 81 features a smooth arc, high deposition efficiency, and low penetration. It exhibits excellent weldability properties on various types of cast iron.
Welding Instructions
- Preparation: The welding area must be machined to a metallic bright finish. Prepare a U-shaped or double U-shaped groove (the UTP 82 AS electrode is recommended for gouging/beveling).
- Technique: Use the lowest possible amperage and a short arc, keeping the electrode in a vertical position.
- Heat Control: Avoid heat buildup and maintain a maximum interpass temperature of 60°C.
- Application: Apply as spot welds (tack welds) until the contaminated area is fully covered.
- Finishing: After application, grind each weld spot down to half of its thickness.
