Genox 383
Description
Passivation usually occurs spontaneously on the surfaces of Stainless Steels with a minimum Chromium content of 10.5% in their composition (according to European standard EN10088). However, most of the time it is necessary to assist the process with an oxidizing acid treatment. The recommended acids in the industry are citric and nitric acid. Very specific circumstances may arise in certain alloys where the pickling and passivation processes occur successively (never simultaneously) using treatments with nitric acid, but these are very limited. The quality and thickness of the passive layer increase rapidly with the appropriate acid passivation process, consequently improving the metal's corrosion resistance. Genox 383 is a specific formulation applicable to the weld bead once it has been chemically or thermally activated—for example, after cleaning and pickling with Genox Pickling Gel. Applying a thin layer of Genox 383 will cause the base metal to react, regenerating the original chromium oxide film.
Highlights
- Gel consistency: Due to its gel consistency, it can be applied in any welding position on vessels, piping, and structural shapes (profiles), preventing dripping.
- Deoxidizing agent: It can be used as a deoxidizer on metallic surfaces contaminated with carbon steel, which is very common during industrial plant assemblies.
