FIBRE DISC CS570 115 MM GRIT 100 GREEN ZIRCONIA

Disc CS570

Description

Abrasive discs for high stock removal on stainless steel, steel, non-ferrous metals, and aluminium.

Grinding metal presents a unique challenge for abrasive products. Metals are tough materials that also possess high hardness. Stainless steel and high-alloy steels, known as superalloys, place the highest demands on abrasives. The CS 570 vulcanized fibre discs meet this challenge with a hard, highly tough zirconia alumina abrasive grain, bound with a strong synthetic resin on a vulcanized fibre backing.

The CS 570 fibre disc offers special features for machining stainless steel and aluminium:

  • Cool grinding thanks to the multibond formulation
  • Close coating
  • Zirconia alumina grain

Highlights

The zirconia alumina abrasive grain used in Klingspor's CS 570 vulcanized fibre discs is a synthetically produced, hard, highly tough abrasive grain with a crystalline structure. The sharp edges of natural abrasive products made of quartz, emery, or garnet become rounded after a period of use, reducing the grinding efficiency. Synthetic zirconia alumina reacts differently: as individual parts of the crystalline structure break off, new sharp edges are exposed. This ensures a homogeneous finish, continuous stock removal, and a long service life.

Vulcanized fibre discs can be used at high temperatures. Thanks to the cool grinding (multibond) properties, overheating and discoloration of the workpiece metal are minimized, even when working with high pressure and at high rotational speeds. For safety reasons, the maximum operating speed of a fibre disc on a backing pad must not exceed 80 meters per second.

The following permissible values help ensure this speed is not exceeded:

  • For discs with a 115 mm diameter: 13,300 revolutions per minute (RPM)
  • For discs with a 125 mm diameter: 12,200 revolutions per minute (RPM)
  • For discs with a 180 mm diameter: 8,500 revolutions per minute (RPM)

Using the CS 570 Fibre Discs

Compatible backing pads are available for the CS 570 vulcanized fibre discs, specifically the ST 358 A hard ribbed model and the ST 358 medium-hard smooth model. The backing pad should be chosen based on the application. The medium-hard backing pad is suitable for achieving a homogeneous finish, as it conforms to the contours of the workpiece. This backing pad is ideal for finer sanding tasks, as well as surface or contour grinding. For coarse grinding tasks requiring high stock removal, the hard backing pad is used. It is particularly suitable for deburring tasks and aggressive grinding.
